Professional Writers’ Consultations
Dear writers,
In my essay about theater, I am talking about how I relate to the practical side of our profession. No matter how unpleasant the practical side may be, it exists, and we have to deal with it.
I’ve always wanted my projects to be brought to life and I want the same for you. Let’s talk. You might have finished a manuscript or a screenplay and don’t know what to do with it next, or you could have an idea and not be sure how to get started, or perhaps you’re stuck somewhere in the middle and have lost your sense of direction, I understand what that feels like. Reach out to us. We will chat about what you’ve written, and about the practical side of things. Let’s become our own producers. Maybe the historical or sci-fi novel you wrote is actually good material for a TV series or for a video game. There’s so much possibility out there. I will read closely what you’ve written, and we will think about it together.
If you need an editor, I can recommend someone, depending on what kind of work needs to be done. If your manuscript is ready and strong, I can recommend an agent. I understand this process, and I will help as much as I can. To learn more about how it works, read below. Jacob will explain everything.
How it Works
Explain everything? I only wish I could. That seems more like a job for NASA, or whoever actually reads the Terms and Conditions before downloading an app. But I will do my best!
Hi, I’m Jacob, the editor and coordinator for both the consultation and internship programs.
Whenever you reach out to get in contact with us, your email will be going to me. But in order to start that line of communication with us, we have a few steps you’ll need to take in order to get to that point.
Below, you’ll find an application form. Please answer all questions in detail. You won’t be able to submit any complete projects within the application, just describe what you’re working on and what you’d like to discuss.
The application fee is $20. We charge this fee because each application will be reviewed and discussed individually by both Natalia and me. We will consider how best to approach your project, how much time we have available, and what timeline is realistic for all of us. This fee is non-refundable.
Within a week of your application, you will receive a response from me, with our proposal and an invoice. The cost depends on how much material we need to read, and how much time we need to spend thinking it through. Natalia and I will be approaching this work seriously, and on an individual basis. At the same time, writing is not a highly profitable field, and everyone works hard. So we aim to charge the minimum necessary, starting at $70, and increasing depending on the time involved.
The consultation itself may take place as an online conversation, a phone call, or in written form, and will last as long as needed.
If we don’t have availability due to other work, we will temporarily pause the application process. If you have paid the $20 fee, you will definitely receive a response either way. We also reserve the right to decline projects if, for any reason, we feel we are not the right readers for them.
Once you receive the invoice, you are free to accept or decline. All communication will take place via email. We take intellectual property very seriously, so the invoice will include a clause acknowledging that you are sharing your work with us, and that we will not use, reproduce, or distribute it without your permission. Payment of the invoice constitutes acceptance of these terms.
We sincerely hope that this conversation, and our participation and support, will help you move forward and achieve success. We really look forward to meeting and working with you!
Sincerely,
Jacob
